Boston Nature Center & Wildlife Sanctuary

 

Part of the Maasachusetts Audubon Society, this 67 acre urban willife sanctuary includes some two miles of trails and boardwalks traversing wetlands and mead9ows, and serves as an oasis for migratory birds. The George Robert White Conservation Center is located on the grounds is among the 'greeenest' building in Boston, teaching environmentally sustainable design through example. Arnold Arboretum

The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is trhe oldest publ8ic arboretum in North America. 15,000 trees and shurbs and vines grow here for the purpose of research and teaching, representing one of the worlds leading centers for the study of plants The arboretum is a major Link in the Emerald Nevcklace design by Frederick Law Olmstead Amercan's Foremost landscape architect and designer of New York's Central Park. Opem year round, the Arboretum encompass, some 265 acres of nature that has refreshed the spirts of Bostonians for generation. Franklin Park Zoo

William J. Devine Golf Course

The Franklin Park Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf facility. It lies east of American Legion Highway and Blue Hill Avenue and is utilized by a diverse group of people from the surrounding communities as well as throughout Greater Boston. The course is known for its wide open, forgiving fairways and its spacious clubhouse. According to course manager, Elaine Gebhardt, the course is in the best condition it has ever been in. A 10,000-square-foot clubhouse opened in 1998 at the golf course at a cost of $3.4 million.
The first Franklin Park golf clubhouse was built in 1911, not in its current location but on Scarborough Hill. The building was destroyed during World War II when the hilltop was used for artillery guns. The second golf course clubhouse was built on the edge of the meadow in 1949.

The Park at Forest Hills

Established in 1848, Forest Hills Cemetery is one of Americas mpst historic and beautiful burials grounds. One of the finest example of the rural cemetery gardens, Forest Hills is also a historic site , an open air museum, and 275 acre park with distinctive Victorian flavor permeating the meandering paths, scenic vistas and the lovely lake. Walking tours, exhibitions and concerts are scheduled throughout the year. Many of america's prominent are buried here, among the the Abolitionist William Llyod Garrison, astromer and inventor Samuel Langley, poets E.E.
